National Bed Month Offers and Tips for Sleeping Well

Sleeping soundly?

Does the barking of dogs or traffic noise keep you awake? Maybe you have a disturbed night because of being too warm or too chilly? Perhaps you have a medical condition that keeps you from dozing off? Or maybe it's down to your actual bed?

We must recognise that the sleep environment has a great bearing on how well we sleep. So before we consider the bed there are a few things to bear in mind to help us sleep soundly through the night. After all sleep is an essential state that accentuates the growth and rejuvenation of the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems.

First of all it is good to set a definite going to bed and waking up routine as the body likes to get into its sleep rhythms which can be changed around by going to bed at different times of the night (or day.) For more information see here all about sleep rhythms.

Avoid stimulants like nicotine and caffeine. This is self-explanatory especially if within 3 hours of bedtime.

Avoid alcohol as although in small doses it may seem to promote a feeling of sleepiness, in regular consumption and in larger quantities it disrupts the sleeping cycle.

Exercise regularly (a daily workout or if you would prefer something not too strenuous - a walk) can help you to rest again later at the end of the day. If you are more sedentary a light walk in the outside air will help enormously. Exposure to day time light helps the body to reset its circadian rhythms so get out and have a walk around now the Spring has sprung.

Have an every-day settling down routine to help set yourself up for sleep. More than one of our happy customers has bought a massage chair just for this reason, which they go on dialled in to a relaxed setting before retiring for the night.

Ensure the room is dark enough (fit an extra liner to your curtains if necessary.) It must also be quiet and comfortable.

If you are considering taking sleeping medication then make sure you discuss it with your doctor. Here at the Castle Comfort Centre we are lucky to have Dr Neil Stirling MB ChB a retired GP who can give unbiased guidance and advice on which medical conditions may be helped through the use of an electric adjustable bed.

Adjustable electric beds also make it easier on those caring for others as raising a person to a sitting position perhaps for meals or to get dressed is a lot easier than trying to manually transfer someone by lifting them up the bed. If you knew how many backs have got injured through doing that you would be amazed. Far simpler to press a button and have the bed do all the moving and handling.

I hope you have enjoyed our tips for sleeping well and if you want to come down to the showroom for a look you are very welcome anytime.

We are open 9.30-5 Monday to Saturday and on Sunday by appointment. Why not come down during March which is National Bed Month and then you can Spring in to Spring with a great offer on the bed of your choice. See if your bed will pass the BED MOT test?
