COPD and Electric Adjustable Beds

COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease is a term used to describe a number of lung disorders that affect breathing.  Emphysema, Pneumoconiosis, chronic Asthma or chronic Bronchitis all come under that heading.

People with COPD typically suffer from symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and chest pain. Also some of the prescription medicines that sufferers take can cause insomnia at night or sleepiness in the day.  Even having to wake at set hours of the night to take medicines on schedule disturbs sleep.

If you have had a medical diagnosis of COPD then you must follow the healthy living guidelines as given by your doctor around diet and exercise and also try and get into a good sleep routine. If you have a progressive condition like COPD then you are eligible for a VAT free purchase of equipment like riser recliner chairs or adjustable electric beds.  Call us on 08000 832 797 and if you are fairly local we can arrange to pick you up and bring you to the showroom for a try on some of the display beds we have.

Lying flat can cause sufferers to cough more at night. Also some people find that on a regular bed that their lungs fill up with phlegm a bit more. This then leads to being breathless in the mornings and can make them feel fatigued as they cannot get enough oxygen.

Before investing in an adjustable bed you might have been trying wedge pillows or building up the head end of the bed by stuffing more pillows under your head.  However as we often move around in the night this can mean that we slip off them or they fall off onto the floor, so we end up lying flat again.

This is what one COPD sufferer wrote about his experience.

"I can now sleep with one pillow that never slips. I can raise my head by the amount I am comfortable with, and this can amazingly vary over a week. I even raise my feet slightly as this makes me even more comfortable.

However, the most important aspect of this is that I do not wake at all in the night coughing. And my breathing is better in the day as my lungs do not fill with fluid in the night."

So as you can see he sleeps through the night now - rather than his condition keeping him awake.  You can take a look at our website here where some of our beds are shown.
With it being National Bed Month we have some Spring Offers that we would like to share with you on our range of electric adjustable beds.

Call us on 08000 832797 or pop in to the showroom and actually try one before you buy one.
